Moment of absence
by Aleksandra Koldobenkova
Find me on:
The moment of absence is an elusive moment of life, which is drowned in the noise and murk that fills our world. The moment you close your eyes, you see streaks of bright light. The moment you close your ears, you hear your fingers pressing on your earlobes. The moment you pinch your nose, you can smell the skin.
Process
Charcoal spreads across the background, imprinting the texture of the sheets lying under the top page. Its texture is uneven, leaving white chaotic lines. I strive to fill them. This is how a series of charcoal drawings was born.

When transferring drawings to zine sheets, I used the same approach through the pages of my spreads. Each subsequent page fills in the places where the visual was missing from the previous ones. Completes their incompleteness, thereby creating a new one.
The process of creating my spreads was to fill in the "voids", just as any moment of emptiness in our lives is filled with external, background "noise" and "murk".
